Apple 2025: What’s New in iPhone 17, Apple Watch, and AirPods and Who These Updates Are Really For
In September 2025, Apple held its annual presentation, which exemplified a measured, but not revolutionary update. The company unveiled the iPhone 17 lineup, new Apple Watch models, and AirPods Pro 3, focusing on refinements that improve the day-to-day user experience. No groundbreaking technologies or radical redesigns but a clear focus on ergonomics, battery life, and health-oriented features.
Apple introduced four models at once:
- iPhone 17 (standard)
- iPhone 17 Air (ultra-thin)
- iPhone 17 Pro
- iPhone 17 Pro Max
Each of them received a new Apple silicon chip, stronger front glass, and upgraded cameras. But the core of the update isn’t about speed or megapixels it’s about how the phone feels in real life.
iPhone 17: Bigger, Sharper, More Expensive
The base iPhone 17 features a larger display (6.3 inches vs. 6.1 in the previous model), 120Hz refresh rate, new colors, and a better selfie camera. The price remains unchanged starting at $799, keeping it in the accessible premium segment.
It’s not a revolution but a well-thought-out upgrade: better screen for video and gaming, more capable front-facing camera, and personalization with new colors like lavender, sage, and misty blue.
iPhone Air: Thin Body, High Expectations
The iPhone 17 Air is now the thinnest iPhone ever, at just 5.6 mm thick and weighing 165g. It’s a smartphone that’s barely noticeable in your pocket, yet offers a full-size display and a single rear camera.
A key feature: eSIM only. This is Apple’s first globally launched iPhone with no physical SIM slot.
Apple is clearly testing a format for those who want minimalism above all. But whether the general user is ready to give up a second camera or a physical SIM is still a big question.
iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: Ergonomics Come First
The premium models now have a new unibody design with slightly rounded edges, striking a balance between the flat design of recent years and the comfort of older models. The displays have also been updated for the first time in an iPhone, Apple added anti-glare coating, significantly improving visibility in sunlight.
Materials changed as well: the matte rear panel of polished aluminum replaces glossy glass. This isn’t just an aesthetic move aluminum picks up fewer fingerprints than the titanium used in previous Pro models.
Starting at $1,099, the Pro has increased by $100 over last year. While the changes are subtle, they add up to a noticeably new experience, not just another routine model.
Apple Watch: Focus on Health and Battery Life
Apple introduced three Apple Watch models:
- Apple Watch SE ($249) – updated entry-level version
- Apple Watch Series 11 ($399) – balanced in price and features
- Apple Watch Ultra 3 ($799) – the flagship with extended battery life and satellite connectivity
SE: Affordable, Finally Updated
The Apple Watch SE got its first update since 2022, now featuring a new S10 chip, Always-On display, faster charging, 5G support, and gesture control like dismissing notifications with a flick of the wrist. It also includes new health sensors for wrist temperature and sleep tracking.
Series 11: Better Sleep Diagnostics
Series 11 changes are less obvious on the outside, but internal updates include more precise sensors and a new sleep analysis tool that tracks pre-sleep routines, wake frequency, and sleep stage duration. Battery life is now up to 24 hours.
For the first time, Apple added long-term hypertension detection, scanning for signs over a 30-day period. The company noted that this feature is awaiting FDA approval and will be available in 150 countries, including the US and EU. It will also roll out to Series 9 and Ultra 2.
Ultra 3: More Power, More Independence
The Ultra 3 is the first update to this model line in two years. Key improvements:
- Thinner bezels
- Satellite connectivity
- Battery life up to 42 hours in standard mode, up to 72 hours in low-power mode
Apple is clearly leaning into devices for travelers, athletes, and first responders, where battery life and communication are critical.
AirPods Pro 3: Better Fit, Better Sound
AirPods Pro 3 mark the first update in three years for Apple’s flagship earbuds. Key improvements include:
- Smaller body
- New memory-foam ear tips
- Five ear tip sizes included (previously just three)
- Active noise cancellation is now twice as effective as in the previous generation
Apple is prioritizing comfort and fit, recognizing that earbuds are not about specs on paper but about how they feel after several hours of use.
Apple in 2025 isn’t about innovation for headlines. It’s about refining the user experience. Everything from the body of the iPhone to the comfort of the earbuds has become more efficient, more comfortable, more discreet.
This isn’t a race for flashy tech. It’s a strategy built on user trust, predictable upgrades, and comfort that speaks quietly but clearly.
Apple isn’t chasing bold wins. It’s building a tighter ecosystem, one where each device complements the other with small, consistent improvements that users actually notice not at launch, but in everyday life.
